A Hawai'i dairy first blended passion fruit, orange, and guava juices back in the 1970s, and the combination — tart, citrusy, and a little floral all at once — became a school-cafeteria and deli-case fixture that's stuck around ever since.

There's no real recipe here, just a ratio. Once you find yours, it's a five-minute pitcher any time.

How fo’ make ’um

  1. Combine the passion fruit juice, orange juice, and guava nectar in a large pitcher.
  2. Stir well and taste — add a little sugar or honey if you want it sweeter, especially if your juices are on the tart side.
  3. Chill at least 30 minutes so the flavors meld.
  4. Stir again before serving, since the guava nectar tends to settle.
  5. Pour over ice and serve.

Local tips

  • Adjust the ratio to taste — more guava gives it body, more lilikoʻi gives it tang.
  • A splash of lemon-lime soda turns this into a party-punch version.
  • Blend with crushed ice instead of pouring over cubes for a shave-ice-adjacent slush.
